Building a Stronger, More
Representative Democracy
The Civic Action Fund works with local leaders and organizations to get more people actively involved in our democracy. Specifically, we aim to empower those typically underrepresented in our democratic process.

Strengthening Democracy
Our goal is to help the United States achieve a fully representative democracy. In order to do that, we must get unlikely voters engaged in our political process. These citizens receive little attention and resources from political parties and candidates – but increasing their civic participation could make a big difference in elections.
Research shows that contacting low-propensity voters increases the chance they will show up to the polls. Through in-person conversations, we can help create new, lifelong voters.
What Makes Us Different
We understand the 501(c)(4) nonprofit sector is crowded and under-resourced. The Civic Action Fund wants to create a fully coordinated, collaborative effort across new and existing 501(c)(4) organizations. We all have the shared goal of strengthening democracy, and working together will help us achieve that goal faster.

Community-Based Organizing
Strengthening democracy starts with engaging underrepresented communities often overlooked by campaigns. We equip organizations and leaders with tools to increase civic participation at the local level.

Critical Resources
Ongoing civic participation requires ongoing engagement programs. The Civic Action Fund provides year-round funding for these important programs, including those keeping voters involved between elections.

Increased Collaboration
Despite best intentions, civic engagement work is often poorly coordinated and duplicative. We work with trusted coordinators to maximize voter contact programs and find the most effective voter contact frequency.

Local Plan-Making
We defer to the expertise of those who work in the communities we are trying to reach. We provide support for their plans and budgets, and help continually optimize programming.

A Culture of Learning
It’s our job to help our partners understand their place within the broader political ecosystem. We seek to evaluate their programs, understand what works, and identify what can be improved to have the greatest impact.

Always Pro-Voter
We’re committed to fostering a fully representative democracy. We reject any effort that seeks to misinform and discourage voters, and we support those who ensure everyone has an opportunity to make their voice heard in elections.
Our Partners
The Civic Action Fund is proud to work with individuals, organizations, and initiatives that seek to increase civic participation and strengthen our democracy. Efforts to misinform or dissuade voters from participating have no place in our work. We exclusively support efforts aimed at fostering an informed and engaged electorate, and we expect our donors and grantees to do the same.
